Horseback Riding

Visiting Lake Fork and looking for something fun to do? Lake Fork Stables offers the opportunity to ride retired racehorses! Our program is different from your typical trail ride. Not only do you have the unique chance to ride a retired racehorse, but our program is a complete horsemanship experience starting with catching and grooming your horse to tacking and riding. You will learn the entire process of caring for and riding a horse!

Our program is aimed at beginners, but riders of all levels have enjoyed our horseback riding program.

Price is $80 per person for 2 hours. Children 5 and up allowed. Spectators are free. All guests are required to sign a liability waiver.

By Appointment Only

*This is not a trail ride. To ensure safety, all riding takes place in our round pen and arena.

What we do

Our Amenities

iFEed Automatic Feeders

Our iFeed Automatic feeding system ensures that our full care horses are fed consistently day in and day out, which reduces the chances of ulcers and colic.

Lighted Outdoor Arena

Whether it’s the Texas heat or the time change, sometimes it’s just nicer to ride at night! Our arena features 2 highpower LED lights providing that option!

Cabin Rentals

Visiting the area for a horse show, trail ride, or just passing through? We have 5 cabin rentals and 2 hotel rooms available for nightly rental. Book at

Horse Shows

Every year we travel to local schooling shows. While we specialize in English disciplines, all disciplines are welcome.
What Drives Us

Our Mission

Lake Fork Stables strives to provide the best care for our horses. Our horses enjoy 24/7 turnout with the option to come into the barn during the day to cool themselves under the fans or escape the weather. We feed Bluebonnet Equilene Complete, which provides maximum nutrition and roughage.

New Riding Lesson Semesters

With the extreme heat of the summer, I've decided that it is going to be best to create a "semester" type schedule for riding lessons. The breakdown will be as follows: Fall Semester - September 16th through November 20th with a break for Thanksgiving Winter Semester...

Burntcinnamontoast: Overcoming Adversity

Back in February, I made the decision that the sweet Johnny Hurricane was not going to make it as a horse that beginners could ride for quite some time. He really needed his own person that would be able to give him the time and attention he needed. I found a young...

Retraining Journal Entry #2: Johnny Hurricane

Time for another update on Johnny. We took about a 3 week vacation, so the horses have all had a pretty long break. A break they would have had anyway since the temperatures were well over 100 degrees while I was gone and still after we got back. We had a slight cool...

Retraining Journal Entry #1: Johnny Hurricane

I'm beginning a new blog series about our retired racehorse, Johnny Hurricane. Johnny had a bit of a rough summer last year transitioning from track life. He had a rough "let down" period in which is hair was frazzled and he developed ulcers. He then developed a very...

Our horses are our friends through the journey that is life. They are there for us when we're feeling down and they are often our partners in our greatest achievements. As they get older, it can be difficult to focus the care that they need, while you move on to...

The finishing touches are being completed on the barn's interior and stalls will be available June 1st! Our boarding options are designed for convenience with two options available. All horses must have a current negative Coggins. Semi-Care Boarding - $300/month Each...

Building Progress

The progress that's been made this week has been amazing! Within three to four days, the barn was built, the new fence is nearly done, and the arena is tilled. All that is left is to finish the arena fencing, the main entrance gate and the barn interior. We will be...

Barn Pad Complete

The first step in the building of Lake Fork Stables is complete. The barn pad has been finished and the fencing will be started next week as well as the barn! That is hopefully before all of the rain that we're supposed to be getting. The barn will be 35x30 with 6...
